Ivan Sutherland: Sketchpad

This is a fascinating demonstration of early computer graphics and human/machine interaction. Ivan Sutherland’s Sketchpad was a pioneering piece of work. Watching it now, almost 50 years later, left me fascinated. This was cutting edge and there are nontrivial things going on in this program, written so long ago.

Enjoy.

  1. Cool. My first job after college was at Evans & Sutherland, the company Ivan co-founded with David Evans. Back then they still made kick-ass flight simulators and other cool 3D stuff. Since then they sold that business to Rockwell and now make planetarium projectors. Still cool, but not the mighty graphics powerhouse of yesteryear.
