Background: Timeon has had a hard life. His earliest memories revolve around the city streets of Phoenix. His family was a bunch of servant laborers and were so poor that they supplemented their meager income by begging on the streets. His family was a rough-and-tumble lot that drank too much and fought often. They had a very Neutral outlook on life, taking things one day at a time and not too concerned with laws or causing a bit of mayhem. His mother was strongly religious and frequently took him to the local temple, especially on Almsday, hoping to receive a blessing and some free food. His mother's family instigated a peasant revolt and were either slain or imprisoned. His father's side of the family stayed out of things and were hated for not helping. Timeon has about a dozen living relative on his father's side, but none of them have ever helped him in any way. No one in his family is particularly noteworthy or ever rose to notoriety. Timeon intends on changing that.
Timeon was abandoned on the streets after the peasant revolt because his family could no longer afford to keep feeding him - his folks fell on hard times and his mother's entire family passed away from a plague that swept the area. He was the oldest child, and his parents needed to take care of his younger brother Caul. Timeon was adopted by the beggars and low-life that huddled in the dark alleys and doorways of the low quarter. He was never a bright boy but he had a big mouth that often got him a swift kick or into trouble with the local guard. He sometimes helped out at the temple during Almsday services, feeling that he should at least give something back to the community. He would steal to survive, but that's what changed his life forever.
While serving time in the workhouse prisons he learned a thing or two about life: no matter what condition a person is in, life is the most sacred of all gifts and should not be wasted. It was during his stint in the workhouse that the Mysterian army swept the southlands. It was also around this time that convicts were sent into battle against the forces that were invading the towns south of Phoenix. Timeon saw his share of battle and won his freedom as a result. One of the captains took him in and trained him in boxing and grappling so that he could better survive the rough streets. Grateful for his training, Timeon spent time with the old captain and fell in love with his youngest daughter. Although the captain was willing to train him, he was NOT going to give his daughter away to some street urchin so he tossed Timeon back onto the streets.
In no time, Timeon found himself a regular at the local bars, using his skills at brawling to keep the peace among the riff-raff and pay for food and lodging. A Phoenixian Fightmaster "found" Timeon and invited him to fight in the arena for profit. Timeon accepted the training and began sparring with other youths at the Gladiator Arena. However, his sparring buddy and new best friend, Nathis, was killed during a training session for disobeying orders. Timeon tried to defend him but ended up bruised and battered, and later expelled from the Arena. All he took with him was his weapons and experiences. He found some adventure by exploring the nearby caves in the Highlands to the west (see TimeonsRun), and by defeating brawlers in and around his native city of Phoenix. He still intends on making a name for himself so he boarded a barge downriver to Somphos, and from there to Messabi. He later found work as a brigsman on a ship bound for Tymaria, but the pay was awful and the brig stank worse than the streets of Phoenix in deep summer. He jumped ship and took service for a while as a mercenary in Elduria, moving further north to avoid rumors of a plague in the region. He has recently been staying at an inn in Pol, looking for work as a mercenary-for-hire.
